Every battle royale game has a unique storyline, and Free Fire is no exception. For dedicated Free Fire players, understanding this background enriches the gameplay experience. Let’s dive into the full story behind Free Fire, exploring how the game was developed, the origins of its various characters, and the hidden elements that make this game so engaging.
The Great Collapse
The story begins in 2017 in a world called Terra, where people were busy with their everyday lives, unaware of an impending disaster. A massive coronal mass ejection from the sun was headed toward their planet. When this cosmic threat reached Terra, it caused a catastrophic event known as the Great Collapse, leaving the world in chaos.
In the aftermath of the Great Collapse, three major cities emerged in Terra: La Luna, Griza, and New Dawn.
La Luna
La Luna became a hub of scientific and technological advancement, pushing humanity to a new level. Home to the world’s largest tech companies, including the powerful Horizon Corporation, La Luna quickly became the leader in technological progress.
Rise of Horizon
The Horizon Corporation, based in La Luna, emerged as a leader following the Great Collapse, becoming known for its cutting-edge research and inventions. Their innovations aimed to improve humanity’s quality of life through advanced technology. By 2027, Horizon was the dominant force in North Terra, using its influence to prepare humanity for future crises. Some view Horizon as a hero, while others regard it with suspicion.
Horizon’s influence is critical to Free Fire’s storyline, setting the stage for the conflict that would unfold.
Griza
Griza, once home to various gangs, transformed after the Great Collapse. The residents abandoned much of their violent past to help rebuild the city, which now stands as a cyberpunk-inspired metropolis on the southern edge of Terra. Here, the Mambas, a gang opposed to Horizon, gained influence. The Mambas rebelled against Horizon, viewing it as a force of oppression.
New Dawn
New Dawn emerged as Terra’s entertainment and shopping capital, embracing the new world and fostering a vibrant culture of art and expression.
Project Bermuda: The Origin of the Conflict
The core of the Free Fire story begins with Project Bermuda, initiated by Horizon’s head, Isabel Lionel. As part of this project, Horizon began abducting people to conduct stress experiments, altering their genes to create enhanced humans. These experiments resulted in people with supernatural abilities, such as extreme speed, heightened agility, and super strength. These altered individuals were then transported to the mysterious Bermuda Island, where they were forced to fight for survival.
As the truth behind Project Bermuda came to light, it became evident that the project was more than just an experiment—it was a war. On one side was Horizon, aiming to push humanity into the next era, and on the other was the Mambas, determined to protect the abducted individuals and bring down Horizon.
In Free Fire, the characters you see are either aligned with Horizon or the Mambas, each with their own motivations and backstories. Notable characters on Horizon’s side include Hayato, A124 (the robot), and Sonia, while the Mambas count Moco, Joseph, Wolfrahh, Steffie, Shirou, and Kapella among their ranks.
Key Story Arc: Rescue Kelly
Kelly, one of the first enhanced characters in Free Fire, was kidnapped by Horizon and made part of their experiments. She was abandoned on Bermuda Island with little hope of escape. However, members of the Mambas gang—Andrew, Misha, and others—launched a mission to rescue Kelly and expose Horizon’s dark secrets to the world.
The ongoing struggle between Horizon and the Mambas takes place on Bermuda Island, with each side fighting for control and survival. The Mambas seek to free the captured individuals, while Horizon deploys its enhanced fighters to prevent them.
