Assassin’s Creed Mirage Free DLC: Leaks, Story, and Everything We Know

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Free DLC Leaks, Story, and Everything We Know

You probably already heard about the free Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC that’s coming at the end of this year, right? Since the reveal, we’ve had some new leaks and extra info. Let’s go over everything step by step.

Ubisoft’s Official Confirmation

Ubisoft confirmed that the DLC will add a new story chapter and missions set in 9th century AlUla, a region in today’s Saudi Arabia. If you look at Google Maps, it’s about 378 hours (16 days) of walking distance from Baghdad. So yeah, pretty far, but makes sense historically.

AlUla isn’t just deserts. Recently, David Guetta did a show there, and you can clearly see some of the structures and environments Ubisoft might recreate in the game. The DLC will probably mix desert exploration with more urban-style environments similar to Anbar, where Mirage begins.

Story Hints: The Brooch and Basim’s Father

The first concept art for the DLC shows Basim holding his brooch, which is attached to all of his story outfits. But what exactly is it?

In an unboxing video, Basim’s voice actor explained that the brooch came from a ceramic tile of his childhood home. His father, an architect, built their house. When they had to leave, Basim kept the tile as a reminder of his father.

In Valhalla, we learned that Basim’s father was the architect behind the Great Mosque of Samarra, but he was later exiled and died poor. The DLC might expand on this backstory, with Basim investigating what really happened to his father.

Cut Content Could Return

According to leaks, the DLC will include features originally planned for the base game but cut due to time and budget.

  • Non-lethal takedowns: Basim had them early in the game, but they disappeared once he got the Hidden Blade. Ubisoft hinted at bringing this back.
  • Dog-type enemies: Similar to Valhalla’s wolf enemies. These were cut because players didn’t have enough non-lethal options to handle them. With new mechanics, they could return.
  • Monkey companion: Early in production, Ubisoft experimented with a monkey companion that could pickpocket and distract guards. They dropped it due to animation costs (and the “no monkeys in 9th century Baghdad” issue). But interestingly, monkeys did exist in the AlUla region. Could Ubisoft revive this idea?

Possible Gameplay Additions

  • Special attacks to expand Mirage’s combat system.
  • Sandstorms similar to Origins. They were avoided in Mirage because it’s city-focused, but deserts like AlUla make them more fitting.
  • Overall gameplay improvements for both the base game and the new location.

Why the DLC Is Free

The DLC is being funded by Saudi Arabia’s Savvy Games Group. Ubisoft announced this collaboration at a tech event in Saudi Arabia. The goal seems to be putting AlUla in the spotlight, potentially for tourism promotion.

That’s why the DLC is free. But of course, expect Ubisoft to drop some new Helix packs alongside the update. They did the same for Odyssey years after release.

Release Window

Leaks suggest the DLC will launch in October 2025, around one month after the “Class of Awaji” DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft Bordeaux has expanded, so it makes sense they’re handling both projects.

Timeline in the Story

From the image, Enkidu is still alive, and Basim is wearing his Initiate outfit, not the Master Assassin robes. That means the DLC takes place before the ending of Mirage.

My theory: After killing the first Baghdad target, players can choose to go to AlUla to explore Basim’s father’s past. This would fit nicely with the 40 Thieves mission location too.

Final Thoughts

This DLC looks like it could be the biggest free content drop in Assassin’s Creed history. Bigger than Valhalla’s Forgotten Saga or the Odyssey crossovers.

Yes, Ubisoft will likely sell cosmetic packs alongside it, but still, free story content in a new region with major gameplay improvements is exciting.

Now, let’s wait and see how much of this leaked info turns out to be true.
